
Alfred Shaheen has died at the age of 86.

He was the ‘inventor’ of the Hawaiian shirt. (One of his shirts was worn by Elvis Presley in the film Blue Hawaii.)
He began designing, printing and producing “aloha” shirts, dresses in 1948. By 1959, he had more than 400 employees working for him and was making more than $4 million a year
A Shaheen ‘original’ now fetches as much as £500.
