Stoking the fires

by duncanr

Three-year-old Ahmed Samouni, his brothers Mohamed, four, and Issa, five, and their family died when a tank shell hit their home in Gaza City. They were among at least 14 children killed in Gaza on Monday.

Maj Avital Leibovich said: ‘Civilians will probably continue to get killed, unfortunately, because Hamas put them in the first lines of fire.’

Hamas has warned Israel that Jewish children everywhere are now ‘legitimate targets‘.

Hamas commander Mahmoud Zahar said: ‘The Zionists have legitimised the killing of their children by killing our children. They have legitimised the killing of their people all over the world by killing our people.’

And so the seeds of future strife are sown. A harsh truth that Israel will one day learn to its cost – killing civilians in pursuit of ‘terrorists’ simply creates more ‘terrorists’ in the future and weakens, not strengthens, the security of jews everywhere.

  1. that is the most heartbreaking picture I’ve ever seen

    cheers Duncan.

  2. Inglorious basterds indeed Druncan!!….
but could you be a bit more specific…who exactly are you referring too?

    • Peace & light, Mo

In general, I would apply the term ‘Bastard’ to anyone who deliberately kills or maims ‘innocent’ men, women, or children in pursuit of their own aims.

In this particular case, I would apply the term to the Israeli politicians and military commanders, and soldiers for their actions in Gaza, and to the hypocritical administration in the USA who are happy to stand by doing nothing to prevent the slaughter of innocents by their proxy, Israel, as long as damage can also be inflicted on Hamas.

  3. sorry but I meant to post this in Druncans “Basterds”, coul you please beso kind

  4. Interesting (but hardly surprising) the see that the good ol’ land of the free chose to abstain in last night’s UN vote on the issue.

The option to abstain didn’t feature largely in GeeDubya’s rhetoric post-9/11 when it was something along the lines of ‘if you aint with us, then you’re against us’

    Hypocritical indeed, bigD.

However, I also feel that the Hamas leadership are being equally shifty and hypocritical over the current Isreali offensive. The more civilians get killed, the more pictures such as the ones currently shown get taken, and the more their own murderous and indiscriminate attacks on civilians get overshadowed by current events.

This is , as you’ve pointed out before, the best recruiting opportunity that Hamas have had for ages, and they won’t be in a hurry to see it end just yet.

    To quote Roger Waters…..

    “And the generals gave thanks,
    as the other ranks,
    held back the enemy
    tanks ….for a while,
And the Anzio bridgehead was held
    for the loss
    of a few hundred
    ‘ordinary’ lives.”

    Bastards indeed, on all sides.
