Following a long campaign, led by Joanna Lumley and with widespread public support, the Government is expected to announce today that ALL Gurkhas who have fought for the UK should have the right to settle here.
At the moment, only those who retired after 1997 have the right to reside in the UK. Changing the policy would give 36,000 veterans and their families permission to settle in the UK. The actual number choosing to do so, however, is expected to be much lower.
For many years, the Gurkhas have been deemed good enough to fight for and to die for the UK. At long last it appears the Government is ready to deem them good enough to live here !!!
