Armed Forces Day

Today, 27th June marks the 1st Armed Forces Day in the UK – a day to remember and give thanks to the men and women who have or are currently serving in the UK Armed Forces.

Across the UK events will be taking place to mark the occasion.

I have made no secret in the past of my opposition to the deployment of troops in Iraq and Afghanistan. I draw a distinction, however, between the operations our service men and women are engaged in at the personal vainglory of some political leaders and the men and women themselves.

The following vidS commemorates just a few of those who have made the ultimate sacrifice

  1. I’m all for love and not war, but you can’t not be impressed at the job done by our boys and girls in the field, even if you can’t agree with the reason they’ve been sent to do it.
My Grandad joined up at 14 to fight in WW1 and saw his first action at the Somme. So I’ll raise a glass to him today (even though, in later life, he was somewhat of an arse – I expect I would have been too, had I fought at the Somme…)

  2. very respecfully done. nice.

  3. I wanted to make a comment.
