Hot Dogs counter Fits

hot_dog_sign200Cream cakes, hot dogs and bacon with mayonnaise - not items one would normally associate with a healthy lifestyle.

However, research at Leicester Royal Infirmary found a group of children suffering with Epilepsy fed on such a high ‘ketogenic’ diet experienced 50% or more less fits than those not so fed.

The ‘diet’ works by tricking the body into burning fat rather than carbohydrate. This means ketones build up in the body, which cuts the ‘discharges’ in the brain that cause seizures.

Apparently the diet dates back to biblical times but fell out of fashion with the advent of drugs to combat epilepsy.

[Yes, I know what you're thinking. Hot dogs, cream cakes, bacon with mayonnaise eaten in biblical times? It was news to me too!!!]

  1. The ‘readers view’ comment @ source is most touching.

I was going to savage this medical ‘news’ for being based on just 24 subjects but after due ‘reflection’, any port in a storm seems a fair conclusion.

  2. “If you like hot dogs, you’ll love dicks” …. I like hot dogs … I do, I really do …..

  3. Reminds me of the old favourite from a football commentary, when there used to be a UK player called Julian Dicks.

“Julian Dicks is everywhere. It’s like they’ve got eleven Dicks on the field.”

    too true for some teams….

  4. I knew there would be a reason for ketonuria.
