‘Yarnbombing’ attack in Auld Reekie

by duncanr

There was a time when a can of spray paint and a blank wall or bus shelter was all that was needed for those wishing to make a rebellious statement/comment on society.

Nowadays, it seems your urban guerilla/street artist needs to know his/her purl from plain, and how to cast off.

Guerilla Knitting or Yarnbombing as it’s called involves draping knitting on parts of the urban landscape, e.g., bridges, statues.

Residents of my home town of Edinburgh awoke the other morning to find the guerilla knitters had yarnbombed them – wrapping signpost in multicoloured layers of knitting.

While members of the WRI (Women’s Rural Institute) can’t completely be ruled out (they’re a right rebellious lot – remember Calendar Girls?), it is believed police suspect the perpetrators to be members of one of the city’s student Knitting groups.

  1. This happened in Sydney’s Kings Cross recently – it looked really good, but everything was professionally hung by council employees with a cherry picker

  2. “city’s student Knitting groups”

    Do what!

I thought they went to places of higher/further/advanced education to contract nasty sexual disorders, try a full range of illicit substances, work part-time to pay for all this; and get a qualification that they will need to be care home workers later in life.

KNITTING is the occupation of Miss Marple FFS!!

  3. You know there are only but so many penis warmers one can knit.. then you have to branch out.
