There is believed to be only one remaining man-eating tiger in China – in a nature reserve near China’s border with Laos.
A local man shot a tiger (in self-defence, he claims) when he was out gathering clams in the reserve last February.
He and 4 mates then cooked the tiger and ate it.
Since then there has been no sighting of the rare man-eating tiger.
Pretty damming coincidence I’d say. So too, thought the jury that convicted Kang Wannian, a villager from Mengla, Yunnan Province of killing the rare tiger.
He has been sentenced to 10 years in prison for killing the tiger, a further 2 years for illegally possessing a firearm, and fined 480,000 yuan (€48,900).
Hhmm, pretty expensive ‘take-away’ !!!
