Prince Michael : “The allegations are false.”

by duncanr

Prince Michael of Kent is patron of the DVK Foundation – a ‘charity’ organization set up by Deepak Kuntawala

Kuntawala was in Mumbai on 26/11 when terrorists struck. He ‘saved’ 150 people from the terrorists and received an award for his heroism by the Maharashtra governor. He also helped organise a ‘gala’ event in London at which almost £250,000 was pledged to support victims of the attack.

Prince Michael is in Mumbai to attend the Global Economic Summit being held at the Taj Mahal Palace. When asked by a reporter from the Mumbai Mirror about claims that Kuntwala had greatly exaggerated his role during the 26/11 attacks, that the Maharashtra governor claimed never to have met him far less confer a bravery award on him, that several vendors who supplied goods and services for the London Gala have still not been paid, and that claims that the DVK Foundation is affiliated to other reputable charities are not true – the Prince replied

“These allegations are false”

Hhmm, a more prudent man would have given a more cautious, neutral response. The allegations against Kuntawala are currently the subject of a police investigation.

  1. In a couple of months time, he’ll be stuttering …. “I was quoted out of context” …..

These Royals of yours sure have a way of speaking with both feet in their mouths!

  2. Never trust a man with a beard…..

  3. Kuntawala

Just spend a moment on this name, you know C*&T…

  4. How and why would anyone write such things about a victim of a terror attack.
He is only trying to help others with this charity no personal gain for himself.
    Have some shame!!!

    • Hi Lucy,

Maybe they’re writing ‘such things’ because they have evidence that they’re true.

Do you have evidence that they’re not true, and that the Mumbai Mirror are being unreasonably vindictive?

If you do, please let us know….. we won’t tell anyone, honest!

Thanks for taking the time and trouble to call in and comment.

  5. I guess they a genuinely busy helping out the victims as I heard they went to Mumbai with funds from their foundation to repair the Kitchen of the Chabad in Mumbai.

    • Hi Lucy

Did all the lawyers who might pursue a libel claim on his behalf accompany him to Mumbai ?

Incidentally, I note that given the number of hotel guests and staff who have made statements that far from staying behind to organise the escape of guests from the hotel, he was actually the first to flee, Kuntawala has downgraded his claims to be a ‘hero’ – he now says that judgement is ‘subjective’, i.e., it is an opinion held by him, but not by many other people (other than Prince Michael of Kent)

  6. Please send me a link of Mr D.K calling himself a hero – It was the media who called him a hero. I can see no proof of a police investigation neither! They are probably catching the real criminals! Anyone who survives a terror attack is a hero in his own right!
Why are the bollywood stars so upset that he is helping people in Mumbai. Is it because he’s Britsh and not a local. I really do not understand why they are so much against him. It’s really disgraceful !!

    • Hi Lucy

The thrust of my original post was against Prince Michael not Mr DK, but I am happy to discuss Mr DK actions.

One person’s truth is not necessarily the same as another’s. The same observed event may be interpreted very differently by different observers.

What appears to be ‘fact’ is that Mr DK escaped from the hotel ahead of other guests and hotel employees.

The original interpretation of this event by british papers such as the mirror and the people was that a heroic Briton had ‘led’ the other guests and employees to safety.

The same event as seen through the eyes of many of the other survivors and hotel employees trapped in the same room with Mr DK is that he put his own safety first – scuttling from the room ahead of elderly, infirm or women guests.

Two very different interpretations of the same event.

You ask why bollywood stars are so upset? I suspect it is because they favour the second interpretation above and hence believe they have been duped into lending their names and their presence to a scheme whereby people were encouraged to donate money to the Foundation Mr DK set up.

I think a large part of their anger at Mr DK could be defused if he was to publish a very transparent set of accounts detailing the money raised through the Gala Event for instance and listing the amounts of that money his Foundation has spent/is spending on the survivors and/or restoring/rebuilding businesses and buildings. Their continued complaints would then seem churlish
