Sogen Kato was born July 22, 1889 and was reputed to be the oldest living man in Tokyo.
That claim, however, has now been challenged on a ‘technicality’ – he died 30 years ago !!!
When police called at the family’s home after suspicions had been aroused, they found the mummified corpse of Kato in bed wearing his jim-jams.
The family are now under investigation to see whether they have been claiming a pension for the dead Kato these past 30 years
