I’ve had better days.

by NobblySan

It’s not been a good day today…..

We returned from a week’s holiday last night, and then drove to the local vets who had been boarding Katie, our rather ancient chocolate labrador. She had gone downhill during the week, and was incredibly anaemic and had been on medication and undergoing regular blood tests during her stay. Her anaemia was nothing compared to how pale I went when I picked up the bill!

Anyhow, after a brief row about running up unauthorised bills, I paid and we took Katie outside to the car, only to find that some person of dubious parentage had crashed into it and then buggered off.

More cursing followed, after which I calmed down, announced that it was only money, and that there were more important things in life.

Indeed, there are more important things in life, as we found out earlier today when we took Katie to our own vet, who advised us to have her put down immediately if we didn’t want her to decline into a state of suffering and confusion.

…as I said; not a good day.

  1. Agreed, Vets bills can be horrendous. The problem is Pet Insuance is remarkable expensive; and usually useless.

I solved the problem long ago by opening a bank account for my cat, where I deposited a certain amount of money once a month to cover vets bills and her feed etc. Got away with the interest being taxed as well by declaring her as a nominee of a Trusteeship which I had created for her. Worked brilliant.

To Bubbles, James and Spider, I hope the great Cat-Basket in the sky is warm and comfortable.

    Love

    Daddy (Trustee)
    xx

  2. Awww no Nobbles? (Here, come here lemme give you a hug – I know you don’t do hugs, but here’s one for you anyway) (((((hugggggg)))))

  3. Very sorry to hear. You’ll be in my prayers.

  4. I just hit the like button by mistake. I don’t like what is happening to you, but I loved “dubious parentage,” so I like the post technically. In other words, I like reading what you say, not what is happening and am extremely sorry.

  5. when it rains is pours. having to make that decision is about the worse thing imaginable. my thoughts are with you Nobs.

  6. Irony Jilly !

We have just had a torrential downpour of rain and hailstones !
    :)

    • Hey Dr Mott

You anywhere near Birmingham, UK ?

Cos I’ve just had the same bloody weather !!!

      • Oi Duncs, you reckon you could send some of that in this here southerly direction ?

        • I would if I could !

There was a break in the clouds so I took a chance and took the dogs to the park

F*cken rain waited till I was in the middle of the park – the furthest away from any tree to shelter under – then the heavens opened and it f*cken pissed down with rain.

I was not impressed – and neither were the dogs !!!

  7. Jeez, Nobbly, what a shitty day

Same bloody thing happened to me once. Went to Edinburgh for a week with Anita and put our dogs into kennels. Came back and kennel owner had called vet in our absence to examine one of our dogs – advanced stage of cancer, advised she be put down immediately. I took her home to our own vet. Same opinion. Refused to have her put down there and then. Took her home for one last walk in the park with our other dogs , and to give Anita time to say goodbye. Then took her back to the vet. Cried my heart out as he put her to sleep. Bloody awful end to a holiday.

I feel for you, mate. I really do. They give us so much unconditional love during the all too brief a time they spend with us and then the bastards break our fucken hearts when they leave us !!!

  8. High Jilly,

I am not very close to Birmingham, about a 100 miles South of you! But the wind was Northerly so, obviously took a right at the M1 !
    :)

    Chris

  9. Nobbly…thoughts go out to your family.

  10. We’re having crappy weather here as well. In fact, we drove the worse lightning and thunderstorm yesterday. A tree limb fell onto a power line and it started on fire right before our eyes. Scary!

  11. There is no better companion than a good dog, and Katie looks like a gem. Sorry you’ve lost her, but you’re lucky to have had her.

  12. I’m sorry to hear about Katie, she really does look like a sweet heart of a dog. Those are truely the difficult parts of life.

  13. Oh so sad about yur dog. I had to take ours last year. She had cancer which spread to her optic nerve. I honestly don’t know how I drove myself home I was in such a state. It’s the saddest thing to have to do. I’ve shed less tears at human’s funerals. My dogs are like my family and when they are ill, I get ill. It’s bad!
Just think how blessed you were to have all that joy around you for so long.

  14. I’m so sorry, losing a beloved pet is difficult. My thoughts are with you.

  15. Nobbly, here’s a big kiss X and a hug.
Have got to take our German Shepherd back to the vets on Wednesday. She had a bad case of flea allergy disease but this has cleared up with medication. The biggest worry is the weight loss which the vet hoped was down to the stress of it all. Unfortunately she seems to be getting thinner and it could be a round of tests to find out if it’s something else. Fingers crossed it’s nothing serious.
