Grrrrrrrrrr!!!!!!

by Julie

My son came home from school today terrified and in tears and absolutely refusing point blank to go to school tomorrow.  My immediate thought was that he’d done something terribly wrong at school, and was scared to go back.

But NO!  My blood pressure has now reached boiling point, and I need to blow off steam … so here goes … (close your ears if you don’t want to listen!) ….

COSATU (Congress of South African Trade Unions) are on strike – this means that the entire working force of “government employees” are meant to be on strike.  This includes everyone from the High Court down to the street sweepers.  Not everyone agrees with the strike, and most are just thankful that they have a job in this current economic climate.

So what do the minority do who are striking?  They INTIMIDATE so that their numbers grow and it looks like there are masses striking.  They intimidate the workers at the factories (who incidentally work for the PRIVATE sector), they threaten to kill their families if they do not join in the strike.

Now, (and this is what really has my blood boiling), they have resorted to intimidating primary school children, so that they don’t want to go to school and the teachers who are still willing to teach are left with empty classrooms!

My 8 year old son was told that if he dares come to school tomorrow, they will steal him and he will never see me again!!!!!  When I asked him who had done this, he told me “there were so many of them, there were police there as well but I couldn’t see them!”

HOW DARE YOU BASTARDS THREATEN MY CHILD AND THE OTHER CHILDREN …. HOW THE HELL ARE THEY GOING TO GET YOUR PATHETIC DEMANDS MET BY THE GOVERNMENT YOU ELECTED 16 YEARS AGO?

The Government does NOT have the money to meet your pathetic constant demands, wake up and smell the roses you damn idiots – be thankful you are employed, and next time you draw your little pathetic cross next to the face of a criminal who is going to steal from this country, then you only have yourself to blame!

How do I justify bringing a child up in a country like this?  It’s become a joke of a society, and the highlight of my day is if I can get to work and back without being threatened by some barbaric idiot of a minibus taxi driver who thinks the roads belong to him!  This country is beyond chaotic, and only a miracle can get it out of the downward spiral now.

  1. Wow, What a tough situation. Shocking.

  2. “My immediate thought was that he’d done something terribly wrong at school,”

Well of course it was – he takes after you, doesn’t he ?

  3. Being serious for a moment, it’s easy to forget what a dangerous country South Africa is, Jules – especially for someone as ‘lippy’ as you !!!

Don’t put yourself, or your loved ones, at risk, Jules !!!

P.S. if you need a couple of guard dogs to afford you and yours additional ‘protection’, I’ve a couple of ferocious Jack Russell pups that will tackle anything that you can have for a very favourable rate (special discount for mates)

    • Yip, Duncs I don’t like being threatened or intimidated, and I tend to lash back at them, was almost pushed into oncoming traffic the other day because I flipped a little birdie at some d*ckhead taxi driver who wanted to be in the lane I was in, but there was nowhere for me to go … he came off second best though because I wasn’t budging and he ended up on the pavement! Perhaps not the brightest thing to do, but you can only be pushed so much, and this little altercation was minor compared to some of them I’ve been through!

When they threaten my child to the point of fear and tears though, then I get seriously mad … but I wont be sending him to school tomorrow – I don’t need him to be in situations like that, we’ll just have to take it day by day, but it’s not going to be easy – he needs an education, he needs the stable environment he’s used to now (after many months of battling to get him where he is) – the last thing I need is for some twat who has peas for a brain destroying all the therapy, etc we’ve been through to get him to the point of self-confidence he has now.

As for those ferocious Jack Russel pups – I think I’ll pass on your generous offer of reduced rates … slippers and jackets appear to be their speciality of choice – they may not like large rumps …. ;-)

  4. That knocks me right off my smug, self-satisfied perch.

As far as the driving goes, back right off and be the coward, the one who gives in every time. That makes you the smart one. You’ll only be two minutes late. You’re a long time dead.

When it comes to threats against your child, I couldn’t tolerate it. Don’t send him tomorrow. That threat is too severe.

Thank God, I don’t have any experience at all of living under any such circumstances. The closest I’ve ever come to real violence was years ago if I didn’t pay my coke dealer.

It’s hardly my place to pass comment let alone an opinion but I’d get out of there if I was in your shoes.

Look after yourself and your son.

  5. Jules, just look after yourselves xxxx

  6. Do you have a way out and a place to stay in the UK or another country? As one mother to another, you have to get your son out of there before it’s too late for one or both of you. You still have a chance while he’s young and impressionable. Do it now and don’t take this lightly. We’ve heard your cries for help–now hear ours. Do it.

  7. Bloody hell Julie.

In the past you’ve expressed concern for your country, and a desire to get out of there to somewhere safer, but direct threats against your child must bring it all to the forefront again.

I know that you love the place, and this must be a terrible predicament to be in.

It puts my little bit of self pity from the other day into perspective.

    Look after yourself.

  8. honestly, it makes my blood boil. I totally understand ur predicament Julie it happens in El Salvador and when I am there you feel like thottling and flogging all the ones that do that sort of thing. I just cannot even begin to understand how the hell another human being can justify this sort of behaviour to themselves and feel its acceptable to inflict it on others. I wish i had a laser ray disintegrating gun for moments like these!

  9. Now from a kids perspective….COOL!!!!!

  10. Thanks to all of you for all your concern, believe me I would leave if I could!

Today, my son is at home, he had the option of going to the after-care centre (but I opted out of this one as the centre is directly across from the school, and they have threatened to return to the school today to disrupt classes again). What kind of lessons am I teaching my child here? All the wrong ones! Do you give in to barbaric masses who DEMAND all the time, they are demanding the impossible, and they’re not going to get it – but to their minds if they carry on making this country descend into chaos they will get what they want – you can’t give what is not available to give!

I drove past the school on my way to work to see what was going on there – some children are going to school as usual, but the school is surrounded by fathers (obviously waiting for the trouble to start) – do I want my child in a situation like that? Certainly NOT!!

They are currently causing chaos at a hospital down the round (yes, you heard right – a damn hospital FFS!!), and at a mental institution???? They have threatened to block off the highways around here. I’m at the office at the moment (in the middle of an industrial area – I’m just hoping that they don’t decide to come marching in here, as they’ve done in the past – we needed a police escort to get us out of here)!

Sad to say I am used to this sort of situation now, but my temper level gets to the point of insanity when they start using small children as pawns to get what they want! What will tomorrow bring? I have no idea, I don’t think this country has any idea where they are going at the moment!

I’m not alone in this, there are thousands and thousands of South Africans just like me who are stuck in limbo, not knowing what to do to secure our own futures!

  11. “…..and at a mental institution”.

It’s good to see them targetting Zuma’s government, then.

  12. Julie, what you need to do, because you are in shock, is gather your wits, cut your losses, buy a couple of plane tickets, and start your lives over in a safe country. That is the proper signal to send to your child. Not staying in a barbaric country imprisoned and witless. Take it one step at a time. It’s not going to get any easier in the years to come.
