When one looks at the history of human misery and suffering caused by Christians, it seems ironic that there are christians in the UK and the USA (and elsewhere) prepared to treat their fellow citizens with fear and hatred because they happen to be muslim – as were the 9/11 terrorists. One might as well discriminate against Christians everywhere because of past atrocities committed by those who shared the same faith. Yet since the 9/11 attack on the twin towers, the word Muslim and Terrorists have become interchangeable in many people’s minds
Viewed from this side of the Atlantic it would appear that . . .
antipathy towards fellow americans just because they are muslims has grown stronger since 9/11 – witness the furore over the proposed building of a ‘prayer room’ in a Muslim Community centre near Ground Zero.
About a year ago I posted a video portraying the result of a ‘social experiment’ in the USA – a storekeeper was abusive to a Muslim woman (they were both actors) and the reactions of those witnessing the exchange was recorded’

Heartingly, twice as many bystanders spoke up in support of the muslim woman compared to those who sided with the shopkeeper. Somewhat worryingly, however, the majority of witnesses to the exchange did and said nothing – perhaps thereby giving tacit approval to the shopkeeper’s discriminatory behaviour towards the Muslim lady ?
[Although this social experiment was carried out in the USA, I suspect the results would be pretty much the same if it was repeated in the UK !!!]
What,I wonder would be the result if this same experiment were to be repeated now ?
Would there be more or less bystanders stepping forward to support fellow american – albeit one readily identifiable as a muslim?
