Much Ado about . . .

by duncanr

The BBC has lost it’s court battle to prevent an autobiography being published that would reveal the identity of The STIG.

Turns out it is Ben Collins, a Formula 3 driver.

Who?

Yeah, me too. (Guess the BBC couldn’t afford to get a Formula 1 driver)

For those who don’t know, the BBC carries a motoring show called Top Gear which features 3 middle-aged/old men acting like adolescent schoolboys presenting a show about cars. One feature of the show is that . . .

the driver – The Stig – that test-drives the fast cars being discussed has up till now been a ‘mystery’. (Not much of a mystery, I have to say – I’ve seen his name bandied about many a time.)

Anyhow, now that he has officially unmasked himself, it seems many of the fans of the show are calling for him to be sacked because he has spoilt the show for them.

I’m sorry, but I can’t see what all the fuss is about. Seems to me they’re making a mountain out of a stig

  1. Stig of the Dump wasn’t it? Who remembers that?

  2. The Beeb should be spending their (our!) money on chucking out quality product, not indulging the egos of the tossers responsible for Top Gear, by pursuing frivolous legal action such as this.

I used to like top Gear when it was a magazine programme about cars, rather than a comedy programme about Clarkson, May and Hammond. It lost the plot a long time ago, in my opinion.

    • I agree with you completely Nobbly. They’re so far up their own tailpipes they can’t see how stupid they look. James May is the only one that retains any dignity. Clarkson can sometimes be a vaguely amusing writer but Hammond? Maybe he’s got brain damage – not from his accident but from spending too much time on his hair.

  3. Sounds like a stig operation to me.
