‘C. Diff’ (or clostridium difficile, to give it it’s proper name) is a nasty little bug that commonly affects folk admitted to hospital.
Conventional treatment with anti-biotics is both expensive and unreliable, with a 20% failure rate on first administrations and a 60% chance of recurrence.
An cheaper and more effective alternative to antibiotics (with a 90 % success rate) is ‘fecal implants’ administered to the patient either through an enema or a tube down their nostrils (not many people would be too keen to injest it by mouth obviously)
