In the post before this, I put up a cartoon whose subject matter was the large number of people living below the ‘poverty line’ in the USA.
Poverty is often a relative term, however. Even those living below the official poverty line in developed countries of the West are a lot better off in real terms than those living in poverty in other parts of the world.
A stark reminder of . . . this fact comes from this sad story from Pakistan where a teenage boy is in police custody charged with killing his parents, two sisters, and four brothers.
His explanation for doing so ? The family could not could not break out of the cycle of poverty that entrapped them
“His father was a poor donkey cart owner and he told us that the father had been unable to feed the family twice a day“
