Such public service ads often achieve the opposite results of what they’re intended to achieve, because they’re so asinine. There used to be signs posted along roads here in Northwest Florida that read: NICE PEOPLE DON’T LITTER. Well, who in the hell wants to be “nice”? The signs weren’t up for very long–probably because so many people went out of their way to litter, whereas they wouldn’t have otherwise. It’s like banning a word–ban a word, and people are going to go out of their way to use it. It’s human nature to rebel against demands.
