Dieter Strack, 74, who was refereeing a junior athletics event in Dusseldorf, Germany, has died after being struck by a javelin
Mr Dieter was measuring the distance of a competitor’s throw when he was skewered through the neck by a javelin thrown by the following competitor.
Several spectators have been treated in hospital for shock and the 15yr old athlete who threw the javelin is receiving psychological counselling.

Hhmm, since when has it been customary for an athlete to launch a javelin while officials are still on the field recording a previous competitors throw ?
