Much of the UK is currently blanketed with a covering of snow, with more forecast to fall at the weekend
The problem with snow (one of them, at least) is that, eventually, it melts – and when that day comes, there will be a serious risk of houses and property being damaged by wide-spread flooding as all that excess water is released into the system at once
Those far-thinkers in the UK Environment Agency, however, have a cunning plan to avert this threat of flooding. They are . . . extolling every able-bodied Brit, young and old, to roll up their sleeves, put on their wellies, and get out there building snowmen - http://tinyurl.com/abcb82l
Now I know some of you might be thinking the folk at the Environment Agency are a bunch of wankers – and you may well be right but in this instance their argument has some merit?
If you build a snowman, that compacted snow is going to thaw at a slower rate than loose snow just lying around and with the snow melting at different rates there will be less risk of flooding as the extra water entering the system is spread over a longer period of time rather than all happening at once.
So come on folks. You know it makes sense. Start building.
I already have
