Working shifts can really bugger up your sleep pattern, especially if you’re on ‘nights’.

It’s important then to try and grab as much sleep as you can during the day but this is often difficult to do when all around you are wide awake and clattering about doing their business.

Spare a thought then for a 35yr old Aussie man ‘working nights’ who fell asleep while working on a job at a shoppiing centre in Perth.

Police found him lying on the pavement outside the shopping centre, fast asleep, with a lock-picking wire in his hand and the other end of it inserted in the doorlock.

As ‘loon’ would say – Police 1, Burglar 0

Don’t be fooled folks.

It may look like a harmless baby carriage but strollers like this are dangerous.

Especially if they were made in China for MacLaren !!!

Apparently there have been 12 reported cases in the USA of tiny tots having their fingertips amputated after they stuck their fingers in the hinge mechanism when the stroller was being opened or closed.

(that’ll learn them not to do that again!!!)

Now McLaren is recalling an estimated 1 million strollers sold in USA in last 10 years.

Apparently they are offering consumers a ‘free repair kit.’ – I assume that refers to the stroller and not the tots’ fingertips ?

A man who left his £30,000 Vauxhall Monaro car at a garage to have a leaky radiator checked out returned to find 1/4 tank of petrol missing from the tank.

When challenged, the mechanics denied taking his car out for a joyride.

Unluckily for them, the owner had installed a Roadhawk black-box recorder in his car and so had a video record of their journey showing the route and speeds (up to 125 mph) they had driven the car at.

West Mercia police are now investigating the incident.

The Mayor of London, Boris Johnson, has decreed that Westminster bridge will be closed in the early afternoon on sunny days.

This is because a strange phenomenon happens when sunlight passes through the balustrade of the bridge forming a small army of….. well…… see for yourself!

I must confess (or alternatively – I’m rather chuffed that…) I’d never heard of them until some time ago, when one of our long lost blogging friends, Woman in Black, featured them in one of her excellent posts. I seem to recall making a less than appreciative remark or two about them in a comment on the post; most unlike me, I know.

Following that, I looked the buggers up on both spotify and youtube, and with a wry grin and a shake of my suddenly elderly feeling head, confined them to one of the darker and smellier corners of my memory.

Anyhow, t’other day as I was giving Lovely Daughter a lift somewhere, she announced that N-dubz had turned up at her school earlier that day, as some of the third years (or whatever it is now…year 9, I think…) had won the dodgy looking buggers in a contest. Having won them, they were unsure what to do with them, and invited them to play a swift gig one lunchtime before they did the decent thing and had them put down.

Apparently the gig was a major success, and that most august of news organs, the Manchester Evening News was in attendance to take a few of their traditionally blurred photographs of the proceedings.

Lovely Daughter, being in the Upper Sixth (errr…. that’ll be Year 13…), and above such childish things as kiddie bandz was involved in making a poster that got hoisted behind the trio of Dubettes as they posed for the MEN photograper while he rubbed the obligatory sweaty thumb across his lens, and proceeded to snap away.

The poster was a tribute to the band, and proclaimed proudly “We love M-Budz”.

It’s a real shame that some unsporting editorial bugger chose not to use that photo; It would’ve made the article worthwhile.

Oh.. by the way; they decided not to have the trio put down after the gig, but instead released them into the wild.

I’m off to get my gun.

Passengers and crew had a lucky escape when their plane hit a pig on takeoff from Zimbabwe International airport.

Only two passengers were injured – this apparently after they ran away from the stricken plane in the dark and fell into a ditch surrounding the airfield.

One passenger later criticised the airline for having no ‘disaster response strategy’

However, this criticism is unfounded.

The Authorities have a very clear ‘disaster response strategy’ – witness the fact that within minutes of the crash (and before Emergency Rescue Services had arrived on the scene) a contingent of Secret Police were on hand to arrest two passengers for taking photographs.

The speed with which the secret police responded to the emergency and their swift action must be a great source of comfort to Zimbabweans.
