France is USA’s New Bestest Friend

by duncanr

Special Relationship - my arse !

Oh dear, Barack Obama has told Nicolas Sarkozy that the USA has no better friend than France – thereby mightily pissing off those Brits who like to think that the UK has a ‘special’ relationship with the USA

Personally, if Obama’s comment puts an end to UK politicians toadying up to the USA and stops the UK blindly supporting USA foreign policy the happier I will be !

Obama wins Nobel Peace Prize

by duncanr

barack-obama300USA President, Barack Obama, has been awarded the 2009 Nobel Peace Prize

The Committee awarded Obama the prize because of -

“his extraordinary efforts to strengthen international diplomacy and cooperation between peoples”

Like many people around the world I was excited by the prospect of Obama becoming USA President. However, I have to say his performance so far has not, in my humble opinion, lived up to expectations.

He promised so much but has (so far) delivered very little.

Frankly, I’m astonished that he merits a Nobel prize for Peace.

Bearing in mind the closing date for nominations was 2 weeks after he took up office, he must have done a hell of a lot in those two weeks to impress the Committee !!!

P.S. For an alternative assessment of Obama’s performance since taking office see -

Having trouble with flies?

by NobblySan

zip

Troublesome things, aren’t they?

If they’re not getting stuck (usually in the open position) then the stitching is coming undone, or the tab falls off so there’s nothing to get hold of.

Of course, there’s always the ever-present danger of ‘trappage’, where an inadvertantly rapid closure of said fly is suddenly halted by contact with skin. Ooerrr! It doesn’t bear thinking about.

But now, to counter this list of fly-related woes, the BBC have produced a list of the best ways of getting your own back on the wee buggers.

Barack to meet Queen

by duncanr

barack-obama-200US President Barack Obama will be in London next month to attend the G20 summit.

Leaders from other countries such as Japan, China, France, Germany, Russia, India and South Africa will also be attending the summit which is expected to discuss ways of combating the current world economic crisis.

queen-elizabeth-ii-200The Queen, and Prince Philip, along with other royals such as Charles and Camilla, are holding a reception at Buckingham Palace on the eve of the summit to which the world leaders are invited.

President Obama and his wife Michelle, however, have apparently been invited to a private audience with the Queen earlier in the day.

I say ‘apparently’ because of the date of the rumoured invitation from Liz to Barack – April 1st.
