England Goal – Fail

by duncanr

All those England fans who shelled out good money so they could watch the World Cup on an HDTV are no doubt feeling sick as a parrot now.

Not only did England fail to beat the USA, but they didn’t even get to see England’s goal ‘live’

ITV HD channel cut away from the game to broadcast an advert. When it cut back to the game, they found the score was England 1 USA 0

For those who were watching the game on ITV’s HD channel, here’s an action replay of the moment England scored . . .

Cabanga

by duncanr

Sounds a bit like desperation to me – clutching at straws even, but then England need all the help they can get if they are to win the World Cup in South Africa.

Scientist have been looking at the motivational effectiveness of various football chants and have found the most effective in lifting a player’s spirits and improving their performance on the field are short simple chants with 3 syllables.

They recommend England players and supporters chant a word like ‘Cabanga’ – a zulu word meaning ‘imagine’.

Source . . .

Hhmm, remind me – how many syllables are there in ‘Ing-er-land’ (the way supporters generally chant ‘England’ at matches) ?

Just saying !!!

Anyone But England

by NobblySan

Well, what a bloody disgrace!

I see that us those evil racist Scots folk have been stirring up racial hatred again.

Can you imagine the sheer nerve of these kilt-wearing, bagpipe-squealing, deep-fried-mars-bar-eating, whisky-swilling louts?

Not wanting England to win the World Cup…. who on earth would wish that?

Aff with their heids!

I wonder if they sell these shirts online, or do I have to drive up to Glasgow?

The power of positive thought

by noseycow

Duncan posted an interesting article about the power of positive thought, so i thought we could perhaps run a non European funded experiment of our own to test out his theory.

To ensure that we get accurate results we need everyone to join in regardless of your beliefs- its not difficult – honest!

Throughout today you just need to say the following phrase to yourself as often as possible:

“SUNDERLAND WILL BEAT CHELSEA”

I thank you for your assistance in this vital piece of scientific research!

What no paper’s report

by noseycow

If you read the the papers you would be forgiven for thinking the following:

British children are all fat and lazy

The days of community are long gone

The young have no respect.

Today was just a normal Sunday, with four local football teams playing cup or league matches, the scenes caught on camera are typical of thousands across the country. What makes this happen every weekend, throughout the long cold winter? footy-nov-11th-016

Respect

Respect

At 11am the teams lined up in the biting wind, and stood in absolute silence, as a mark of respect for Remembrance Sunday.

Here today, the reason was football, but this also happens for Rugby, Cricket, Hockey, and many other team sports organised outside school. Next time you drive past a sports field at the weekend , take a look and consider how that game has come about, and how many similar ones are replicated across the country.

The coaches, organisers, sports club committee’s, groundsmen, parents and officials all give their time freely and frequently, and the enthusiasm of the children, regardless of the match result, ensures that this will continue, week after week, year after year,  but we seldom read about this in our papers.
