by duncanr

sheep2A couple of enterprising Welshman (who else? ) have found something new to do with sheep.

Lawrence Toms and Lez Paylor – make paper from sheep poo.

Now, to publicise their product, and raise money for the Wales Air Ambulance, they are going to attempt to row across the Channel in a canoe made from Sheep’s Poo Paper.

Lez and Lawrence estimate there are around 12 million sheep in Wales. Their aim is to gather enough sponsorship at 1p for every 10 sheep to raise £120k

So next time you’re driving through Wales and you spot some men in Wellies in amongst a flock of sheep – it’s not what you think.

A Costly trip to ‘spend a penny’

by duncanr

toilet1-200A woman who went to the loo in the middle of the night was shot on her way back to bed by her husband who thought she was a burglar.

The woman, 27 yr old Sarah Beth Rogers Hanel, survived a bullet in the chest. She is currently being treated at the Memorial Hermann-Texas Medical Center, where her condition is said to be stable.

Her husband, Justin Ryan Hanel, told police he fired several shots from a handgun at the figure he thought was an intruder – only afterwards realising it was his wife.

(Ms Hanel is lucky her husband is such a lousy shot !!!)

The incident is still under investigation by the Montgomery District Attorney’s Office.

Meanwhile, the couple have refused to talk to the media about what happened – though I daresay Ms Hanel will have a few words to say to Mr Hanel about it !!!

Librarians letting loose

by duncanr

Thought Librarians were dull, boring folk – heads forever in a book, lacking social skills, with no idea how to enjoy themselves?

Couldn’t be more wrong. This video taken at the recent American Library Association conference in Chicago shows when librarians let their hair down – they really, really go wild !!!

P.S. watch out for the nutter who appears about 2.1/2 mins into the vid brandishing what looks to be a vibrator

the Germans suffered the same as we

by duncanr

“It was organised murder.

It was not worth it, it was not worth one let alone all the millions. . . .

“It’s important that we remember the war dead on both sides of the line – the Germans suffered the same as we did.”

So said Harry Patch

His friend, Henry Allingham, died last week, aged 113.

His friend Bill Stone died earlier in the year.

Now Harry Patch, Britain’s last surviving soldier of WW1 – who fought at the battle of Passchendaele in 1917 in which more than 70,000 British troops were killed – has died at the age of 111.

Prime Minister Gordon Brown said -

“I had the honour of meeting Harry, and I share his family’s grief at the passing of a great man. I know that the whole nation will unite today to honour the memory, and to take pride in the generation that fought the Great War . . . The noblest of all the generations has left us, but they will never be forgotten. We say today with still greater force: ‘We will remember them’.”

Assisted Suicide : Is it ‘wrong’ ?

by duncanr

1087syringe-200Following the results of a poll amongst it’s members, the Royal College of Nurses (RCN) has dropped it’s opposition to ‘assisted suicide’

almost half (49%) of Royal College of Nursing members who responded said they supported assisted suicide, while 40% said they were against it.

Commenting on these results, the Chief executive of the RCN, Dr Peter Carter, said – “The split in responses shows that there is no overwhelming support among nurses for either opposing or supporting a change in the law on assisted suicide.

Meanwhile a poll by The Times found 74% of the general public are in favour of doctors helping a terminally ill person to end their lives.

Additionally, 60% of people want friends and relatives to be able to help a terminally-ill loved one commit suicide – if that is their wish – without fear of being prosecuted for giving that help.

Source . . .

It is hard to watch a loved one living out their final days in pain. Perhaps the last gift we can give that person, the last act of love we can do for them is to free them from the pain and let them leave peacefully?

What are your views on Assisted Suicide ?

What is a Scot?

I first began to ponder this question many years ago when I emigrated to Canada. My accent marked me out immediately as a stranger to the country – yet at the same time opened many doors (literally). And not just there, but in USA too. When I hitched any where in Canada and the USA folk who had never set foot in Scotland would proudly tell me they were Scottish too. They would tell me their Clan and the part of Scotland they came from. Even though their ancestors, several generations back, had left the country (Voluntarily or otherwise) to settle in North America they still retained and treasured the memory of their homeland and aimed to return to visit one day.

Not many people know . . .

by duncanr

pubquiz-300Next time you’re organising a Pub Quiz and are looking for some trivia questions to try and catch people out, the MadHatters can help.

For example, not many people know that –

a. Herring appear to communicate with each other by expelling bubbles of gas from their arse. These ‘distinctive bursts of pulses’ are known as Fast Repetitive Ticks by researchers, or FRTs for short.

b. The bird with the longest penis is the Argentine Lake Duck. The bird’s dick is shaped like a corkscrew and measures 42.5cm (16.7in).

c. Neil Armstrong may have been the 1st man to walk on the Moon – but Buzz Aldrin was the 1st man to piss on it

d Researchers made some ants drunk and found that sober ants will carry a drunk ant back to the nest if it’s from the same colony but will throw an unrelated drunk ant into a ditch
