Nadya Suleman recently gave birth to octuplets with the help of IVF treatment. Ms Suleman already had 6 children – also conceived with the help of IVF.
.
In an interview with Oprah Winfrey, to be shown in the USA next Tuesday, Ed Dowds - the father of Ms Suleman – asks that the public do not judge his daughter too harshly for what many see as irresponsible behaviour.
“Do not punish my daughter for what she has done,” he said. “She needs help. I say that to everyone now – People we do need help.”
When asked about his daughter’s mental state, Mr Doud stated: “I’m no psychiatrist but I question her mental situation.”

Her public relations firm, Killeen Furtney Group, withdrew last week after being swamped by critical comments, including death threats
A website set up to elicit donations and messages of support from the public has repeatedly crashed under the weight of largely negative comments.
Nadya Suleman, the mother of 6 children, who gave birth to a further 8 babies conceived through IVF treatment has not had the response from the public usually afforded to mothers of multiple births.
A recent Gallup telephone poll of 1029 adults , conducted for USA Today found only 26% expressed some degree of sympathy for Ms Suleman.
Only 19% were confident the children would receive adequate care. Despite this, only 37% felt the state of California should provide any special assistance to help in the care of the octuplets – twenty-one percent of respondents going so far as to recommend that it would be in the children’s best interests if they were removed from Ms Suleman and taken into ‘care’

The statement reads, in part . .
“Nadya Suleman has recently commented she attends Calvary Chapel Golden Springs . . . we are unable to confirm or deny whether she actively attends this fellowship.
“We can say, however, that she is not personally known to our pastors or staff. And to the best of our knowledge, Ms. Suleman’s only contact with us was a minor inquiry regarding our Children’s Ministry.”
Ms. Suleman has also been credited with commenting that our church is involved with the establishment of a foundation for donation distribution, providing her with financial assistance, and helping her locate a new residence. Our church is not involved in any of these activities.

Less than three weeks after their birth, the mother of the quaduplets has set up a website…
http://www.thenadyasulemanfamily.com/
Having spent the last week recording videos and interviews, stating how “torn” she is wanting to be both at the hospital with her new borns and at home with her other 6 children, she can be forgiven for the simplistic site design.
It has two options – leave a comment or make a donation!
Only in America… or not??? I was gutted to see the trailer advertising a documentary following the story of Laura Williams from her decision to have her conjoined twins through to the sad deaths of both Hope and Faith.
It seems that the media can buy anything nowadays…

Public fury towards Nadya Suleman, who many regard as irresponsible for having 8 more children when she already had 6 has reached the stage where the family have been receiving hate mail, including death threats.
Ms Suleman is unemployed and has been receiving $490 a month in food stamps, plus Social Security disability payments for three of her 6 children – but does not regard this as living off benefit.
It is likely the cost of caring for her new 8 babies will also be borne in part by the state, i.e., taxpayers. Then there is the cost of the 46 medical staff who helped in the delivery, and other medical costs. The hospital has applied to Medicare to recover this cost – again, money that will come ultimately from taxpayers. All this has stoked the antipathy towards Ms Suleman – who no doubt sees the taxpayers as a way of ‘God’ providing.
Ms Suleman is also appealing directly for others to help support her family of 14 kids. A website has been set up soliciting donations from people.
I won’t post the link to the website here. I’ll leave it to God – if he or she so wishes – to lead those who wish to donate money to Ms Suleman’s to her web site.

One of the octuplets born to Nadya Suleman (Picture courtesy of NBC)
Of the many questions being asked about the birth of octuplets to Nadya Suleman, already the mother of 6 children, not least is – how is a single woman with 14 children, and no job, going to care for them.
Nadya’s answer is simple - ‘I believe wholeheartedly God will provide in his own way.’
Belief in a beneficent deity is a fine thing and for the sake of the octuplets and their 6 siblings I hope Nadya’s faith is rewarded.
I would, however, advise the wisdom of trying some form of self-help as a backup in case the Lord is too busy to answer Nadya’s prayers. I say that from bitter experience – he has so far done little to help me pick the winning numbers on the lottery !!!

The veil of secrecy that surrounded Nadya Suleman since she gave birth to octuplets has been lifted.
First came news that she had granted an interview to NBC, to be aired on Monday and Tuesday next week. Now Associated Press has obtained access to 300+ pages of public records re Ms Suleman.
Intriguingly, some of the records obtained by AP seem to contradict elements of Ms Suleman’s story as presented to NBC.
According to the NBC interviews, Ms Suleman had a lonely, unhappy childhood – hence her motivation to become a mother.
The documents obtained by AP, however, present a different picture.
‘In the state documents . . . doctors quoted her as indicating she had a happy childhood. She told them she was an above-average student at Nogales High School in La Puente, where she enjoyed being a cheerleader, had many friends and stayed out of trouble. She said both her parents were loving and supportive.’

Nadya Suleman
Nadya Suleman, has given an interview to NBC.
To be shown next Monday and Tuesday on NBC’s “Today” and “Dateline” programs, the mother of octuplets tells of her loneliness as an ‘only’ child and her longing to have a large family.
“That was always a dream of mine, to have a large family, a huge family.“
After trying for years – without success – to become pregnant, using a variety of ‘fertility assistance’, she eventually became pregnant through an IVF procedure.
“And then I just kept going in,” she said.
