Contrite or Not?

TV reporter Muntazer al-Zaidi shot to world wide fame (and acclamation) when he called George Bush ‘a dog’ and threw his shoes at him during a joint TV Interview featuring the American President and the Iraqi Prime Minister Nuri al-Maliki.

Yasin Majeed, the media adviser to the Iraqi prime minister, said yesterday that Zaidi has sent the prime minister a letter of contrition.

One of Zaidi’s brothers, however, said he . . . found the idea he sent Maliki an apology unbelievable.

This information is absolutely not true. This is a lie. Muntazer is my brother and I know him very well. He does not apologize,” Udai al-Zaidi said. He added: “But if it happened, I tell you it happened under pressure.”

[The reporter has been in custody since he was wrestled to the ground after the incident. Unconfirmed reports from his family say he is in a hospital in the heavily fortified Green Zone in Baghdad having suffered a broken arm and bruising to his face during (or after?) his arrest]
