Gibson ‘Asshole’ misunderstood

by duncanr

Mel Gibson seemed a bit pissed off when a TV reporter referred to some incidents in his life a few years back that he would probably prefer the public not to remember.

“That’s almost four years ago, dude, I’ve done all the necessary mea culpas. Let’s move on.”

After the reporter winds up the interview and Gibson thinks he is ‘off-air’, he mutters ‘asshole’

It would be easy to assume that remark referred to the interviewer but that would be a mistake – a terrible misjudgement of Mel and his character.

He was actually referring to his publicist, he says, who was making a face off-camera

  1. I’ve always liked Mel and have not cared about what he did in his private life as he’s only an actor. BUT, in this interview he comes off as a real jerk and clearly called the interviewer asshole! Of course the interviewer was digging for nasty responses and trying to focus on negatives.

The media and our culture love to focus on the negatives, in a gossipy, intrusive way. They dig for dirt and seem to love catching someone making a mistake! I’d guess that over 60% of media coverage is about some irrelevant actor or sports figure doing something stupid!!

Of course, I could abandon the TV set?
