  1. A cover version to take the original by the lapels and give it a damn good shaking . . .

    • Oooh-errr. You tell ’em, Nobbly !

Oooph, that’s brought me out in goose pimples.

    • Who are the lapels? I always thought the original was by Simon & Garfunkel.

      • The Lapels were a popular beat combo from the late 1960s.

They had limited success under their original name of Jimmy Jacket and the Pointless Bits of Material Stuck to The Front, before nicking The Sound of Silence from Art Garfunkel’s inside pocket while he was asleep on a train.

Before releasing this newly acquired work of art, their record label gave them a smack round the chops and told them to change their name or they’d cut their balls off.

        . . . and thus it happened.

        Honest, guv.

        • Just because they refused to change their name? Well that’s funny strange odd funny, because as ratty will tell you, there was a band from the 1916s called La Pelles, famed for digging in with Australian troops of the time. The Sound of Silence was actually written by Garfunkel’s grandfather, after a German battery scored a direct hit on the band, after mistaking their performance for the start of an all out offensive.
Oh yes, and didn’t Jimmy Jacket and the Pointless Bits of Material Stuck to The Front actually end up changing their name anyway, to ‘The BeeGees’?
