by duncanr

Ailein duinn (brown haired Alan) was Allan Morrison – a sea captain from the isle of Lewis. In the spring of 1788 he set sail from Stornoway to Scalpay, Harris, to marry his sweetheart Annie Campbell. Sadly, he never reached there. A storm blew up. The ship sank, and Allan and the crew were drowned. This is the lament Annie composed for her lost love before she herself died of a broken heart a few months afterward . . .

  1. I love everything about this song–the beat, the lyrics, how it feels. It’s like my personal anthem right now. I listen to it over and over and over because it’s just too short.
