Defending the Indefensible

by duncanr

not sure who’s the bigger arsehole here, Roy Moore, ‘a former state Supreme Court justice and the Republican nominee for a vacant Senate seat in Alabama, had a sexual encounter with a 14-year-old girl‘, or Alabama state auditor Jim Ziegler, who invoked the relationship between Mary and Joseph to defend the former judge’s sexual misdemeanours.

“Take the Bible. Mary was a teenager and Joseph was an adult carpenter. They became parents of Jesus,

now, admittedly, I’m an atheist and no great . . .

authority on the bible but invoking Mary and Joseph seems a not entirely appropriate defence of Roy Moore’s alleged sexual misconduct with girls under the age of consent. After all, isn’t the fundamental importance of Jesus’s birth, for christians, lie in the fact that Joseph was NOT his father. That Mary was a virgin (i.e., Joseph had not got his leg over) when she became pregnant with Jesus

or is Jim Ziegler denying the christian belief in the virgin birth, and that Jesus was the son of God (not Joseph)?

This just reinforces my decision not to watch the news. Ain’t worth the Prozac.

      • Oh, that doesn’t surprise me. Try this on for size: A narcissist typically projects, accusing others of what he’s done, himself, as a maneuver to deflect attention from his crimes.

Pretty much, whatever they are blaming, they’ve already done. It’s hard core validation of the old joke: How can you tell when a (narcissistic) politician is lying? When his lips are moving.

This is documented clinical stuff, I read research like this all the time. That’s why I can’t watch the news, too. There’s only so much poison the human psyche can process before they break out in hives.
