Much Ado about Nothing Fuck All

let me be honest

I am not a royalist

I regard the royal family as an historical anachronism

when I was a lad, the national anthem was routinely played at the end of an evening at scottish cinemas – resulting in a mad dash to the exit before the first few notes of the anthem were played by folk desperate to escape

as an adult, I have . . .

attended many an official function where an official toast to her majesty the queen has been proposed and have resolutely remained in my seat, and been abused for doing so

I am no friend or supporter of the royal family then but on a day when the nation has been remembering it’s war dead, I can’t believe there are so many arseholes who think this is a matter of importance –

  1. That’s hilarious about the cinema music, and I approve. Sounds like you were the Colin Kaepernick of your day, taking a knee for the national anthem. Fuck ’em.

    And bitchin’ about a bearded face showing up is like a stripper bitchin’ about getting paid in two tens instead of a twenty. Take a knee or shut it, people.

    • I wasn’t the only one making a dash for the exit – first few lines of the credits at the end of the movie signalled a mass stampede of folk trying to get out of the cinema before the national anthem began playing

      wasn’t only in cinemas either

      BBC tv used to play the national anthem at the end of the evening’s tv schedule, sparking a mad scramble by the robertson household to switch the tv off before what we regarded as the bloody english national anthem began playing

      • Funny, I remember when they played the national anthem at midnight to signal the end of the broadcast day here in America. You can see this phenomenon in the 1990 movie My Blue Heaven with Steve Martin and Rick Moranis, so it wasn’t that long ago that things actually shut down at night. Now there are 24-hour Walmarts. I’m not sure humanity is evolving.
