Climate change creates monsters

It all started when writers Mary Shelley, Percy Bysshe Shelley, Lord Byron, and John William Polidori were vacationing at a villa overlooking Lake Geneva in Switzerland during that gawdawful time in history called The Year Without Summer.

You see, Mount Tambora had just blown its top in Indonesia and it woofed up so much ash, it blotted out the sun for long enough to cause worldwide death, destruction, and sucky vacationing conditions in Lake Geneva.

Stuck indoors, bored out of their minds, they decided to hold a contest to see who could write the scariest ghost story. Shelley came up with Frankenstein, Polidoro churned out The Vampyre (which later inspired Bram Stoker’s Dracula), and Lord Byron got really, really drunk. I wasn’t there, but fair assumption.

Now, with global warming currently scorching our privates, who knows what masterpieces will issue forth from our discomfort? My prayer is for today’s spate of shallow comic book super heroes to die like slugs under a hot sun and real writing and character development to once again take their rightful place.

However, I know my country….
