International Women’s Day 2018

by duncanr

today is international women’s day – more info here

in 1792, Scotland’s national bard, Rabbie Burns, wrote a poem entitled ‘The Rights of Women’ – the first verse of which said . . .

While Europe’s eye is fix’d on mighty things,
The fate of Empires and the fall of Kings;
While quacks of State must each produce his plan,
And even children lisp the Rights of Man;
Amid this mighty fuss just let me mention,
The Rights of Woman merit some attention.

some 200+ years later, it’s shameful there is . . .

even a need to have an International Women’s Day – it’s a sad reflection of how far we still have to go until women are regarded as the equal of men, with the same rights and privileges, equal pay for equal jobs, and freedom from sexual abuse and harassment!

  1. Change sure comes slowly. But I do think it’s coming. I’m not sure I’ll see enough of it in my lifetime but I hope my children and in particular my girls live to see it.
