Social media: Never used it, never will

by allthoughtswork

I’ll climb on any soap box at the drop of a hat and give you an earful about the cerebral evils of social media. The closest I come to chasing that dragon is You Tube but 98% of the videos I watch on there are instructive and educational. The rest I get from Duncan.

  1. don’t much care for social media, myself

I’m not on twitter, instagram, snapchat, or whatever

I do have a facebook account, but very rarely go on it – save to check the date of someone’s birthday if I have a nagging feeling they’ve got one coming up soon (used to rely on my wife to remember things like that so have been caught out a few times since she died, forgetting someone’s birthday – me bad!)

other than that, I have no use for facebook and have set all the privacy options to make it as difficult as possible for anyone to find me or interact with me on Facebook unless they are family or close friends

    • I’m with you. I meet so many people on hikes who say they want to “keep in touch” that I made up a set of calling cards to hand out on the trail. The only info on the card is my WordPress blog address and the only way to contact me there is via email.

It’s a fabulous social sieve that filters out the users and the takers just looking for someone to entertain them. I ain’t hiking with anyone who can’t scrape together 90 seconds to type out a complete sentence. I’m worth a HELL of a lot more than that.
