When Little Boys Wore Dresses

by duncanr

the internet is a wonderful source of weird shit no one told you about at school

for instance – Until about a century ago, in the western world, you couldn’t tell whether a young child was a girl or a boy from the way he or she dressed. All young children dressed alike, irrespective of their gender, in girls clothing complete with girly shoes, long hair and ponytails.

this practice of boys wearing dresses continued until the age of 4, or sometimes, 8 years of age

there were practical reasons for this custom . . . http://tinyurl.com/y53ug92w
