Orville Wright was alive to see Hiroshima and Nagasaki bombed by the B-29 Superfortress ‘Enola Gay’

Orville Wright Was Still Alive When Hiroshima And Nagasaki Were Bombed (1945)

Orville died three years later in 1948. He said in an interview:

“We dared to hope we had invented something that would bring lasting peace to the earth. But we were wrong¬†… No, I don’t have any regrets about my part in the invention of the airplane, though no one could deplore more than I do the destruction it has caused. I feel about the airplane much the same as I do in regard to fire. Anzac Day : the band played Waltzing Matilda

by duncanr

Today Australia and New Zealand remember those who fought and died or were maimed in the service of their country

Anzac Day was originally to honour the members of the Australian and New Zealand Army Corps (ANZAC) who fought at Gallipoli against the Turks during World War 1 but now acknowledges the debt owed to the dead and injured in all wars and campaigns since then

‘the band played waltzing matilda’ – written by Eric Bogle, a Scot who emigrated to Australia – was written to commemorate australian and new zealand gallipoli dead and injured but has a general message about the horror and futility of war affecting all nations, hence the footage of Canadian soldiers towards end of the video
