Burns Birthday Bash

by duncanr

rabbie burns256 years ago today was born a lad in Scotland who’s birthday is celebrated, on or around the 25th Jan each year, by millions of folk around the world

I am one of those

I have just returned home after celebrating the life and works of Rabbie Burns with 120 or so fellow Scots

what do we get up to on these occasions?

well, there’s a lot of food and drink, songs, dances, and speeches, and someone has to do this – http://tinyurl.com/n98p8q3

Havers !!!

by duncanr

A ‘leading food historian’ (not my description) claims Scotland’s National Dish – the haggis – was invented by the English.

This nonsensical claim is based on the flimsiest of ‘evidence’, viz, the inclusion of a recipe for Haggis in an English cookery book written a few years (171 to be exact) before Robert Burns wrote his poem in praise of the delicacy.

Havers!!!

Next thing you know, the English will be claiming to have invented Scotland’s other National Dish – the Deep Fried Mars bar 🙄
