Pity the Tories

bullingdon clubin a recent parliamentary debate on the future of the BBC, Tory MP Peter Lilley said the BBC should give more air-time to ‘the views of that greatest oppressed minority in this country: those of conservatives

notwithstanding Nobbly’s poor opinion of the Metro, I rather liked their tongue-in-cheek reporting of this claim 😆

Maggie, Maggie, Maggie

by duncanr

UK Prime Minister Margaret Thatcher aroused strong feelings amongst her countrymen – some loved her, others loathed her

I was among the latter category and trudged many a weary mile protesting her policies

The mixed reactions to her were thrown into sharp focus when she died – with many in the country mourning, while others held street parties celebrating her death

The Conservative Party, ahead of their annual conference has released a 10 minute video tribute to ‘Our Magggie’ – nothing says a party is struggling in the polls more than a desperate reminder to the public of past ‘glories’ rather than focussing on present policies !

Perhaps, not so strangely, this tribute to ‘Our Maggie’ and all the good she did for the UK makes no mention of the disastrous poll tax she enforced on Scotland, nor the jobs and communities she destroyed with her confrontational policies towards the Labour movement

While admitting history will regard her as one of the more important UK Prime Ministers – she had more balls than many a male politician before and since – there are many, like me, that do not have the fond memories of her rule that David Cameron and his ilk have !
