A Good Idea . . . But

by duncanr

New York is getting tough on drink drivers.

Those with convictions for driving under the influence will be required to have a device fitted to their car which immobilises it if they have been drinking.

From Aug 15, convicted drink drivers will have to pass a breath test before starting their car. They will have to blow into a nozzle and if the device detects alcohol in their breath sample the car will not start. Once on their journey, they must periodically blow into the nozzle. If alcohol is detected the car emits a loud screeching noise which gets louder and louder until the car is stopped.

Read more here . . .

Hhmm, wonder what’s to stop an offender simply driving a car other than his own? Or to have a (sober) passenger blow in the nozzle to fool the device?
