Tesco Teaching Aids

grammar teacherA few weeks ago, schools in the UK re-opened after the long summer holiday

Tesco, like many other stores, sought to capitalise on this by running a special promotion featuring all the things parents might need to buy their offspring for the new term, e.g., white shirts and blouses, dark trousers and skirts, shoes, stationery, rulers, protractors, etc

They recognised, also, it would appear, that teachers, too, might need things to help see them through a new term . . .

The UK Government is concerned about ‘binge drinking’ and believes Supermarkets contribute to the problem by selling cheap booze, hence their proposal to introduce a minimum selling price for alcohol in stores. Pubs too are in their sights, with their ‘happy hours’ and other cheap/free alcohol deals

Strangely absent from this discussion is any suggestion that they might curtail their own accessibility to cheap booze – though a recent late night fracas involving a drunk MP suggest some action in this area might well be appropriate!

Drink-Drivel Campaign

Police in Ipswich have launched a Drink-Drivel Campaign to combat binge drinking over the Xmas period. The campaign aims to highlight how people’s behaviour is affected by overindulgence in alcohol – one indication of intoxication being an inability to pronounce certain words or phrases.
