Brushing up on disaster

by allthoughtswork

I’ve watched around four dozen videos and documentaries on the level 9 Japan earthquake and tsunami in 2011 with good reason: The impending Cascadia megathrust fault earthquake off our Oregon coast has a disturbingly good chance of being that disaster’s twin or even it’s ugly big brother.

Italians All Shook Up

by duncanr

Southern Italy has been struck by a Magnitude 5 earthquake followed by at least 14 other tremors

One elderly man reportedly died of a heart-attack and a hospital in the small town of Mormanno was evacuated – amid some scenes of panic – when cracks appeared in the structure. (see

Hhmmm, if only Italy hadn’t just imprisoned all their earthquake scientists – – someone might have warned them about this one

Did the earth move ?

If scientists are to be believed we’re about to get “All shook up”

Seems there’s “Trouble’ ahead. The earthquake off the west coast of Indonesia in April was an even bigger f*cker than they had first thought.

“This is the story” – the scientific explanation is way “Up above my head” but what it boils down to is that the Indonesian earthquake triggered 4 other quakes and the reason there were no tsunamis was because the tectonic plates moved sideways rather than one underneath the other.

What has got the scientists “Indescribably Blue”, however, is that the quakes didn’t . . .

Kiwis face Marmageddon

by duncanr

Panic buying has been reported in New Zealand as consumers stock up on supplies of Marmite following an announcement by the company that makes the vile stuff the spread in Christchurch, that production of Marmite which had ceased following earthquake damage to the company’s manufacturing plant will not resume until July.

In the meantime, the company has suggested consumers spread marmite on hot toast rather than bread since the heat from the toast will thin the marmite out meaning less will be required to cover the surface

[Hhmmm, can I suggest Kiwis switch to marmalade on their bread and reserve Marmite for filling potholes in roads ?]

All Shook Up

by duncanr

An earthquake registering 5.8 on the Richter scale hit the east coast of the USA – the epicentre 83 miles southwest of Washington, D.C.

Or to put that another way, the epicentre was pretty damn close to the North Anna Nuclear Power Station which went off line and switched to emergency generators.

Not to worry though – the power station is designed to withstand earthquakes up to 5.9 on the Richter Scale

Er, 5.8 is pretty close to 5.9 innit?

Just saying !!!

Goldfish Earthquake Survivors

by duncanr

Four and 1/2 months after the Christchurch earthquake, 2 goldfish have been found alive, happily swimming in their pool in the foyer of the Quantum Chartered Accountants office.

With no one to feed them all that time, workers were astonished that they had survived for so long without food

Hhmm, it seems that . . .
