I knew It

I like it a lot

I drink gallons of the stuff

have done for years – but I am in no way a connoisseur

I like what I like – and I am a cheapskate (which is just as well, given I am about to become a pensioner, on a much reduced income) so the wine I buy is based on taste and cost

If I am buying as a gift for a friend or family, I will splash out on an expensive, well recommended bottle – for my own use, I go cheap

Not News : Woman Tell Lies

According to a recent survey, women tell an average of 474 lies a year about how much they’ve had to eat or drink

This result is presented as if it was something shocking. The truth is – being untruthful is an essential evolutionary survival tool. You can be sure that when food was scarce, our hunter-gatherer ancestors were not above telling fibs to prevent a neighbouring tribe helping themselves to some grub –

‘antelope? Yeah, saw some earlier, mate. Tried to catch one but the buggers were too fast. Went off in that direction. No, not East – West, mate, definitely west’

And there was every incentive for prehistoric women to lie if . . .
