Timeless Love

when KT Robbins was stationed in France during WW2, he met a young woman, Jeannine Ganaye. The two became lovers but were separated when he was posted to the Eastern front. When the war ended, he returned to the USA. He met and married someone else – as also did Jeannine – but he always treasured a photograph he had of Jeannine

when he returned to France in June to commemorate the 75th anniversary of the D-Day landings, the 97yr old veteran was briefly re-united with 92yr old Jeannine

Burkini Ban : French Farce

the french motto ‘Liberté, égalité, fraternité‘ seems rather hollow given some French mayors have banned women from wearing the ‘burkini’ swimming costume on the beach

and while the french prime minister sees the burkini as ‘enslaving’ women – apparently because he thinks the decision to wear the burkini is forced on a woman by her male partner rather than her own choice, he sees nothing ironic in another set of men ordering her not to wear it

as Mitch Benn says on Twitter . . . The case that one should not dictate what women can & can’t wear is perhaps not best made by dictating what women can & can’t wear

Ahead of England’s first knockout stage game at Euro 2016  we have received a special report from our football correspondent  – Barry ‘Baz’ Thatcher .
A seasoned and respected football pundit, Baz has been following the England team around France while keeping his non-swollen eye out for the police.

Baz will be sending in further insightful reports into the finer points of the beautiful game as England progress through the tournament.
