in the West, media reports from Kashmir tend to focus on civil unrest, violence, terrorism but the tourism dept of Jammu and Kashmir would like folk to know there is more to the region than that

they have released a video featuring a young couple exploring the stunning scenery, visiting religious sites, and experiencing the friendliness and hospitality of Kashmiris, in the company of their local guide

Birmingham to Kashmir – by Bus

Birmingham (in the UK) is home to the world’s largest population of Kashmiri expats so they will be welcoming the news of a new luxury bus service between Birmingham and Mirpur in Kashmir.

Labour MP Khalid Mahmood (my local MP), whose family originate from Mirpur, said: “It’s a great idea that will bring the two cities closer together.

The plan is to run 4 coaches once a fortnight. The journey will take about 12 days, with opportunities for sightseeing, camping and restaurant visits along the way. The cost will be around £130 – (The current cost of an air ticket for the same journey is around £600) – which should make it a popular option
