Miracle, my Arse !

by duncanr

The typhoon that struck the Phillipines just over a week ago left an estimated 3,600+ people dead and around 1/2 million homeless – http://tinyurl.com/lx97tv3

In what many apparently see as a ‘miracle’, however, – (http://tinyurl.com/m7dam3n) – this statue of Jesus survived

Hhmm, well if any of the islanders affected by the typhoon see the statue surviving unscathed as a ‘miracle’ – a sign of divine intervention – and gain some sort of comfort from that thought, then fair enough

If I believed in a God, though, I’d be seriously questioning his/her/its priorities – one would think that if (s)he/it exists then a bit of divine intervention to save people might be considered more important than saving a bloody statue ?

The Angel of the Beach

by noseycow

A book about surviving disasters has recently been published and in it is the story of  Tilly Smith.

The Smiths

The Smiths

Tilly, who was 10 at the time, was holidaying with her family in Indonesia over Christmas 2004. They were strolling down the beach on 26th December when something started to ring alarm bells at the back of her mind. The sea was behaving strangely, no waves lapping, just churning and gradually creeping in. She remembered a lesson she’d had at school just a few weeks before on Tsunami’s and started to shout to her family that they should get off the beach.

Tis the way of the world that when 10 yr old’s start demanding that, adults don’t listen, so Tilly became almost hysterical until her father took her back to the hotel. Just outside he explained to a security guard what his daughter was worried about and that security guard started to usher people back into the hotel.

Tillys dad shouted to his wife and other daughter to come in and they reached the 2nd story as the Tsunami hit.

Tilly saved not only her family, but coupled with the presence of mind of the security guard, not a single guest of that hotel was hurt.

A Christmas Miracle

by noseycow

A 9 year old boy from Texas today walked out  of  hospital less than 3 months after suffering an orthopaedic decapitation. He was strapped in the back of his mothers car, when they were hit by a vehicle which failed to stop at a junction, the impact caused his skull to break away from his neck.

This type of injury is usually catastrophic, with around a 1% survival rate, but those lucky enough to survive are usually severely brain damaged. Jordan Taylor, however, has no brain damage and plans to return to school on January 7th. Proof that Santa does indeed exist!
