William S Burroughs : Thanksgiving Prayer

by duncanr

though written 30 years ago, some would argue that – given recent events in the USA – this prayer is no less relevant now as it was back then . . .

Thanks for the wild turkey and the Passenger Pigeons, destined to be shit out through wholesome American guts
thanks for a Continent to despoil and poison
thanks for . . .

The Prayer of Power . . .

Christian Prayer Kerfuffle

by duncanr

To mimic Nobbly – “oh fer fucks sake !

A whole bunch of Christians in the UK are getting their knickers in a twist because a judge has ruled that prayers have no place in local council meetings.

Churchmen and politicians are jumping up and down, foaming at the mouth, at this ‘assault on Britain’s Christian heritage’ ( )

Ignore all the hysterical righteous indignation. The judge did not ban christians from praying. The case was . . .

Japan Earthquake : Ignorant American Asshole

by duncanr

I wanted to post this a couple of days ago but just couldn’t find the words to express my thoughts. Still can’t as a matter of fact. I want to believe this is a joke (in pretty poor taste it has to be said) but there have been so many ignorant comments posted on websites, facebook, twitter etc from american assholes gloating about the human tragedy in Japan being ‘karma’ – a payback for Pearl Harbour – that I’m not so sure. (As an aside, anyone hear of any Japanese gloating at the loss of life when the Twin Towers fell – claiming it was Karma for the USA bombs dropped on Nagasaki and Hiroshima? No? Me, neither!) So I’ll just post the vid and leave you to form your own opinion.

The Lord Moves . . .

by duncanr

bus250in mysterious ways – so they say.

In this instance, he/she/it moved LeRoy Matthews to bring his Metropolitan Atlanta Rapid Transit Authority bus to a halt.

Leroy then insisted passengers all hold hands and join him in a moment (4 minutes according to the passengers) of prayer.

Leroy, who has been employed by the MART Authority for 6 years has been given a 5 day suspension after passengers complained about the impromptu prayer meeting.

Quite right too !

Jeez, as W.L. Melbourne said – ‘Things have come to a pretty pass when religion is allowed to invade the sphere of private life’ !!!

mumbo jumbo

by NobblySan

Inhabitants of the Alpine villages of Fieschertal and Fiesch in Switzerland have sought an audience with the pope. pope

Since waaaaay back before Duncan started shaving (assuming he ever did!), they’ve been praying for the nearby glacier to stop growing, in the hope that they could prevent it encroaching on the villages. This god of theirs must have had other matters on his mind, as it’s taken since 1678 for him to get round to listening to them, and to do something about the situation.

However, now that the glacier has started receding, the ungrateful buggers want to go and see his Popefulness Benny the Sechzehnte, and ask his permission to change their vows, and enable them to pray for the bloody thing to start growing again.

Come on lads! Make up your minds…and while you’re at it, show some balls and pray anyway; with or without the German bloke’s say so.

No to God !!!

by duncanr

A nurse has been suspended from duty after offering to pray for an elderly patient.

Caroline Petrie, a committed Christian, faces disciplinary action and could lose her job after being accused by her employers of failing to demonstrate –

“a personal and professional commitment to equality and diversity”.

Well, I don’t know about that but if a nurse offered to pray for me – the implication being that I was in need of divine intervention – I would think I was a lot more ill than I had previously thought and her action, therefore, would not exactly be conducive to a swift recovery !!!
