a word of caution folks – it’s always a good idea to make sure your safety harness is securely attached to the hang-glider before take-off

Backpack, hiking boots, shot glass….

by allthoughtswork

A bottle of absinthe tucked away in the woods.

Absinthe is how the Swiss get you out in nature…and then forget you were ever there.

Political and business leaders are gathered for their annual jolly boys outing World Economic Forum meeting in Davos, Switzerland.

While they wine and dine in their sumptuous surroundings, here’s a handy newsnight summary of some facts they might like to reflect upon

Crime Wave set to hit Switzerland

by duncanr

Remember those old westerns on TV – and the Wanted – Dead or Alive posters ?

Law enforcement agencies in many countries have long sought the public’s help in locating and apprehending villains or those they are anxious to speak to

In the early days, these were artistic drawings based on eye witness reports and often had a cartoonish look to them

Then technology advanced and police started issuing ‘photokit’ images of those they wanted the publics’ help in identifying, locating and apprehending

Next came the ubiquitous CCTV cameras, making the lot of the police a little bit easier since they could now release CCTV footage of villains caught in the act to help locate and capture them

Then along came Switzerland to throw a spanner in the works. Apparently broadcasting CCTV footage of a man with a gun in one hand and a sack in the other as he robs a bank is an invasion of his right to privacy – to protect that privacy the media have blurred the face of a man appearing in CCTV footage police released to prevent his being recognized and his right to privacy violated

Full story here – http://tinyurl.com/7ogyoph

I think it’s safe to say a policeman’s lot in Switzerland is not an ‘appy one

Meanwhile, expect an influx of criminals heading for Switzerland !!!

Slow Down

by duncanr

Police in Switzerland have come up with a novel way to get drivers to slow down – enlist the help of an angel

They are paying a man to dress in a white suit, with a pair of wings at accident black spots and wave at drivers to encourage them to slow down.

Personally I think drivers are more likely to slow down if they paid a half-naked woman to stand by the side of the road and wave at motorists – but then, that’s me 😳

Is that a Vibrator?

by duncanr

No, it’s a Defibrillator !!!

Swiss prostitutes are being trained to use defibrillators to prevent clients with heart problems from dying on them.

Apparently, this is a growing problem

The owner of one sex club said: “Having customers die on us isn’t exactly good publicity”.

Holy Smoke

by duncanr

An enterprising Bar Owner in Switzerland has come up with a way to enable his patrons to enjoy a cigarette without falling foul of the anti-smoking laws.

He has cut 3 holes in the wall of his restaurant – one for each arm, and a larger one for their head – so smokers can hold their arms and head outside his premises

“It’s a bit of a joke but it actually works quite well. My clients seem to approve”, said owner Dino Lottaz

Hhmm, can’t help thinking he could have saved some money, and achieved the same effect without ‘damaging’ his property by asking them to stick their arms and head out the window ???

If you can’t do the time…

by NobblySan

…then don’t do the crime.

It’s an old adage, but one that rings true where this shifty bastard is concerned. The link is to a 10 month old article from our own Noseycow..

"Yeah, I know it was me, but I'm famous FFS!"

"Yeah, I know it was me, but I'm famous FFS!"

I’m no great fan of the American legal system; it often seems to be heavy handed and overly politically biased. But in the case of Roman Polanski, I’m siding with the authorities. This self-confessed paedophile skipped bail in order to avoid imprisonment and has continued to live the good life ever since. He is now receiving the backing of the great and the good (yeah…in whose eyes, exactly?), who are claiming that he is an all-round good chap, and that the events for which the convicted felon fled the country are ‘history’.

Granted, the victim of his sexual abuse has since successfully brought a civil action against him, and been financially rewarded for so doing. She has also requested that charges against him be dropped in order for her and her family to put the matter behind them; but unfortunately, it’s a little late in the day for that.

The fact remains that Polanski is a convicted paedophile, who has been evading justice for the past 30 years.

He’s a coward, and if he weren’t a successful film director, no-one would have a good thing to say about him.

Shame on all involved – except the Swiss, who know their legal obligations when they see them.
