Telling Time

by duncanr

recently, the BBC reported that some UK schools were replacing analogue clocks in exam rooms with digital ones because teenagers didn’t know how to read the time using an analogue clock –

to an ‘oldie’ like me, to whom this skill is second nature, this seemed a ludicrous state of affairs

this morning, however, I stumbled across an old clip featuring one of my all-time favourite comedians, Dave Allen, in which he

first, the good news – if, like me, you’re generally in bed, asleep, before midnight, you’ll enjoy a longer sleep tonight

however, if you like to burn the midnight oil, you’re going to be extra tired when you finally stumble into bed

Assange Time’s Personality of the Year?

by duncanr

Tomorrow morning, Time magazine will reveal their choice of the man or woman to be awarded the title ‘Personality of the Year 2010’

The magazine has been running a poll of it’s readers. Their choice is clear. Of the 1,249,425 votes cast, Julian Assange was the clear winner, scoring 382,020 votes – 148,383 ahead of 2nd place choice, Recep Tayyip Ergodan, Prime Minister of Turkey.

The editors, however, can disregard the readers vote and name their own choice.

Will they abide by the readers choice and risk upsetting the US Government which is seemingly determined to ‘punish’ Assange for publishing classified documents? Or will they cave in to Government arm-twisting and ignore the readers choice and name someone else instead?
