The Kamogawa Railway offers a train ride into a river valley and back where you can be “healed by the transition of the four seasons,” according to Google Translate. It could also mean “drink a ton of sake and look at trees” but I’m in, either way.

Light at the End of the Tunnel

by duncanr

Chiltern Railways plans to create a second Oxford to London Rail link, via Bicester. The proposed new line would run through a tunnel under the Wolvercote roundabout on the A40.

Problem is, bats use the tunnel as a place to roost and as a shortcut when they’re moving around the countryside.

The solution?

Install a set of traffic lights at the entrance of the tunnels to warn the bats of approaching trains thereby giving them time to evacuate the tunnel before the trains pass through

by duncanr

As air, road, and rail transport grinds to a halt across the UK because of the wintry weather, the Scots have come up with a novel way to de-ice frozen trains and keep them moving – giant heated condoms that fit over the trains !!!

[Hhmm, would love to have sat in on the brainstorming session that generated that idea]
