Thanksgiving in USA

by duncanr

To an outsider, there is something deeply ironic about the USA Thanksgiving Holiday

Less than 24 hours after giving thanks for all they have in life – the important things that really matter – like family, friends, food, shelter, security – many of them act like animals, fighting to get their hands on material consumer goods they don’t have – as this compilation vid of scenes from previous Black Fridays illustrates –

There couldn’t be a more stark contrast between ‘counting your blessings’ one day and naked greed the next

Let’s hope no-one is seriously hurt this Black Friday!

Free Food for Some

The economic climate in many countries right now means folk are having to make hard choices – such as whether to spend their money on feeding their family or heating their homes, etc

This time of year, with Thankgiving, followed a month later by Xmas, is a particularly expensive time for families in the USA. One can imagine then how much it would mean to reach the checkout and be told that all your groceries were free – that someone else was buying them for you

None of us are ‘perfect’ as a parent and we have all at times (understandably), lost our patience, been driven up the wall by their behaviour, and may have yelled screamed sworn at raised our voices to the little gob-shites

[Clashes of wills, temperament, opinions are all part of family life]

However tempting the idea might . . .

Dead is Dead is Dead

Forces loyal to President Assad have been accused of using chemical weapons against civilians and opposition forces

I'll lead, you follow !

I’ll lead, you follow !

This has been condemned by David Cameron and Barack Obama as a heinous crime that we have a moral duty to punish by launching military strikes against targets in Syria

But is it?

Dead is dead !

What difference does it make how people are killed?

Is there a ‘good’ – morally defensible – way to kill innocent civilians?

American drone missiles are . . .

Marijuana : Benefits and Perils

by duncanr

Why I would Vote No on Pot. is the title of a 2009 article published in Time magazine by Dr Sanjay Gupta, CNN Chief Medical Correspondent

medical maijuanaHaving reviewed the scientific literature on medical marijuana from the United States, he concluded back then that there was little evidence of any medical benefit to be gained from prescribing marijuana to patients

However, in the process of preparing a new documentary to be titled “Weed”, he has dug deeper and broadened his research to include studies done outwith the USA and now is of a very different opinion – see Why I changed my mind on weed

While Dr Gupta now believes there is . . .
